Chair’s Tips for Deciding Where to Stay

If you are looking for something historic and unique, that is centrally located, then the Leopold is a good choice. It’s the venue we use to put up academic staff who are visiting the department. It’s near a lot of shops, restaurants, and pubs and the tramlines.

If you are looking for more modern accomodations near city sites that is still centrally located, the Mercure is an excellent choice. Academic guests often request this location as it is right next to several key sites such as the Peace Gardens, Town Hall, the Winter Gradens, and the Millenium galleries. All these sites are free to visit.

The Hamptom by Hilton is also a good choice. I have personally stayed there and recommended it to other out of town guests. They have a fabulous breaksfast buffet that comes with the room. It is not as close to the bustle of city center though, which may be to some people’s liking. But there are some fabulous traditional English pubs really near by including Shakespeare’s and The Fat Cat.
